The Worst Person in the World Got Me out of the Introvert House

The Worst Person in the World is just the ticket for an introvert. Also, a great corpse reviver if you’ve worked on your feet for 6 hours. Put those two bonus points together and you have Roxanne feeling like she could go out at 7:17 pm by herself on a Saturday night. Sure, I went in four bars, didn’t stay and didn’t drink, but hey, even going that far was progress.
So here’s why I loved Joachim Trier’s film:
1. As aforementioned, made me feel better about being on my own…phew! I am not a lonely uninteresting school marm (at least until the movie wears off).
2. Made me appreciate the great loves of my life and hey, for the record, there are five. Not bad for a 58 year old, some only get one. Still room and time for more (picture me bedside praying).
3. The acting was tremendous! Renate Reinsve was a marvel as was the person with one of the BEST monologues I’ve seen this year, Anders Danielson Lie, who was also tremendous in Bergman Island. Herbert Nordrum was also good in a larger role yet less screen time.
4. The soundtrack is amazing! It made the movie seem like real life, meaning not as melodramatic, a ‘we all go through things and can survive’ vibe.
I heard someone get up and leave about half way through and felt that was valid at that point, since I found the main character despicable at first, also feared the movie was man hating at the expense of raising women up (not the way to go gals), and made me think only mean cocky women get to have fun at the expense of others. Yet, resilience paid off, as the ship, in this case film, turned itself around. To say more would break my no spoilers rule.
My quandary now is: to look at my top ten again as this has to go in.
