I Want You Back: Lovable Actors=Taking the Ride

I Want You Back (Directed by Jason Orley of Big Time Adolescence and Pete Davidson stand up specials) is a super lovable rom-com. I’m not into chick flicks per se, but give me Jenny Slate and Charlie Day and how can a person dislike them, it’d be like hating puppies or kittens.

What helps here is that the writing was better than average rom-com material, with complexity not usually found in this genre. Bravo to the writing team of Elizabeth Berger and Isaac Aptaker (Emmy winners for This is Us which I’ve never watched).

Don’t let me get your hope up, this is not profound, but pleasant. And while I believed Charlie and Jenny’s roles, Gina Rodriguez should stick to drama and Scott Eastwood should just be a Tom Brady body double.
